Gatherings
Witches for Lunch
You're invited to join us and our special guest speakers for lively conversation and great food. Pagans for Lunch is a monthly informal lunchtime get together for local Pagans at a Geelong cafe. In 2020 lunches are held on the Monday before the Full moon at The Sprout About, 1 Martin St, Thompson. (The Sprout About caters to a wide range of dietary requirements.) We often use these lunches to plan our lunar and solar gatherings, so come and get involved ![]() Full Moon Observations
Join other members of the Geelong community to observe moon rise on the eve of the Full Moon at Eastern Observatory. Acknowledgement of country will be made and a member of the Guild will also give a brief talk on relevant European solar, lunar and other seasonal lore and celebrations. Check the City of Greater Geelong event Directory for local dates and times. Dark Moon Gatherings TBA ![]() Summer Solstice Feast
Our annual dinner event held on the longest day to mark the height of the seasons and the commencement of shortening days. For our ancestors the summer solstice was a time for feasting before the hard work of harvest began. Of course in the Northern Hemisphere, where the this celebration originated, our cousins will be celebrating the winter solstice traditions of Yule with roast dinners and plum pudding. Book Here for the 2019 Summer Solstice feast. Summer Solstice Pilgrimage For the Witches Guild Summer Solstice Pilgrimage participants will hike up to Eastern Observatory on the roadside. An acknowledgement of country will be made at Eastern Observatory and a member of the Guild will also give a brief talk on relevant European solar, lunar and other seasonal lore and celebrations. Please wear sturdy footwear and prepare for mosquitoes. Unfortunately the pedestrian pathway up to Eastern Observatory is not paved and the area around the observatory maybe rough and uneven. Suitability for wheelchair access should be assessed by individuals prior to the event. Image information: Persephone in the garden of The Temple of Amphitrite by Cara. Winter Solstice Lantern Parade
Run by the Geelong West Neighborhood House. Traditionally, the Winter Solstice is an acknowledgement of the day of shortest daylight. Walking with our candle-lit lanterns along Pakington Street honors this tradition of rising from our dormant Winter. This is an amazing and memorable occasion of colour and light. Location: West Park, corner Autumn and Pakington Streets, Geelong West. www.gwnh.org.au ![]() Sun Return Gathering
Join a small group of hardy folk at a public gathering to celebrate the sun return before dawn after the winter solstice. Participants will gather at Eastern Observatory, Corio Bay foreshore, Geelong to share a hot breakfast and watch the sun rise on the new solar year. Held annually at sunrise after the winter solstice. Content on this page is written and coordinated by Cara. Last updated December 2019.
